“…And once again, the sun doing was doing his thing, shining bright as ever exuding his strength and energy to the world, and he sees the little hummingbird, despite all his strength and his might, he admires the strength in that small freedom fighter, flying her little wings as fast as she can, fighting this crazy finite thing called life…”
This piece was inspired by a lazy afternoon in the summer, at Kory’s grandmother’s backyard. There was a beautiful hanging metal sun piece on the porch of her backyard, and the sun was blazing on a Sunday afternoon. I remember the cool gentle breeze and the hummingbird feeders were hung on the porch so the birds would stop by for a drink. I remember Kory’s mother, Kristi, called out to the hummingbird who came by to drink the honey and water mix from the red feeder. I remember she said, “Look at that hummingbird, so strong, so brave, flapping its wings so fast.” And I watched that little bird fly around and hovered around that hanging metal sun. That memory stuck with me and I knew I had to create a story. Kristi’s love for animals and that day inspired me to create that painting, making a story about the sun, an immortal being, admiring a small little creature, the hummingbird making its way through life.
